Time Travel-Part 2

Tom paced around the living room that Annie had led him too. He had no idea what had just happened. Was he seriously in 1776? More evidence appeared that he was in the past when he saw a newspaper on a table dating June 22nd, 1776. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. Sitting down on the soft leather couch, he tried to calm himself down. But his mind kept wandering back to when Annie’s dad had fainted. It couldn't be possible that someone in the past recognized him. It had to be a mistake. A voice interrupted his thoughts.
“Tom,” he said. Startled, Tom turned around and saw that it was Annie's dad.
“How do you know my name?” Tom said, more curious than scared.
Annie’s dad sighed and said, “Because you are-” A loud rapping sound was heard at the door. Annie ran down the stairs to the living room.
“There are strange men at the door, Father. They are carrying guns,” Annie said in a panicked voice. Annie’s dad looked like he was about to faint again.
“This is really bad. You have to hide,” Annie’s dad said.
“Yes, Dad,” Annie said. Tom was surprised to see that the bold side of Annie was gone and replaced with a frightened one. Tom followed Annie to a hidden basement, but along the way, he couldn’t help but notice the strange room they passed by, locked up with multiple locks. As they hid in the basement, Tom could hear the breaking down of the door, and Annie’s Dad yelling. When the men yelled back, Tom felt a sharp feeling of recognition, the voices sounded so familiar, but he couldn’t place who they were. Suddenly, gunshots rang out, and a scream erupted from Annie’s Dad.
“Father!” Annie shouted, and opened the latch to get out of the basement.
“Annie, wait!” Tom said. “Youre going to get yourself killed out there. I think they are trying to find us.”
“My father is already dead. What more can I lose.” Annie said. Her tears already covered up more than half of her face. Suddenly, the sound of footsteps approached their hiding place. Alarmed, Tom yanked Annie back into the basement and closed the door. They hid behind some leftover boxes as the footsteps become even more close. They stopped in the middle of the hallway, as Tom held his breath in fear.
“Did you find the boy?” One voice said.
“No. Boss is going to get so mad,” A second voice said. Both voices sounded very familiar to Tom, but he still couldn't connect them.
“Why did we have to mess up the teleportation? He was supposed to end up in the same place we are” the first voice said.
“That doesn’t matter anymore. What matters is that we have to find him, or we’ll be dead for sure,” the second voice said.  Tom started to breath again, and relaxed as the footsteps faded away. Tom sat with Annie behind the boxes for a while until Tom heard the sound of the door opening and closing.
“It should be safe now Annie. I think we can come out,” Tom said. Annie nodded, and soon, Tom and Annie were out of the basement. The house was a mess. Chairs and tables were overturned and walls were broken. Annie rushed over to her dad and started crying. Tom didn’t know what to do. He had never felt the pain of losing a relative, so he tried to comfort Annie by patting her back, but she just sobbed more.
“Annie. Tom,” a croaking voice said. Annie’s tears abruptly stopped.
“Father! You are alive!” Annie exclaimed.

“Not for long. I need to tell you something Tom.” Annie’s dad said. “Tom, I am your Dad.” With that, Annie’s dad closed his eyes.

  1. Really good but I found continuity a little lacking as well as descriptions of the main character. As far as I can tell you are fitting Tom (main character?) into the hero's journey. All in a all a really good chapter.
